You know street style in terms of fashion week. We see it in New York, London, Milan, and all other Fashion Weeks, the stylish workings of influential individuals in the fashion world. But now, we see it emerging on the runway, with the rise of brands such as Adidas, Vetements, and Supreme.
In fact, at the Fashion Awards, formerly know as the British Fashion Awards, taking place on December 5th in London, there will be, for the first time ever, a category called “International Urban Luxury Brand” which features Adidas, Vetements, Palace, Gosha Rubchinskiy, and Off-White.
At Seoul Fashion Week, the runway was full of street-style-inspired looks. Some popular brands among the Korean fashion community include Kichwork, Ellioti, and Spunky. These designers all emerged originally from shooting Korean street-style for years. K-pop stars rock street-styled outfits, which is steadily increasing the popularity of the style throughout the nation. However, the Seoul Fashion Week runway has historically been dominated by street-style, due to its appeal in Korea, this year, it shifted to a more youthful focus.
In the United States, more and more street-style designers are emerging and designers are creating more urban collections. We can see this is the rise of Adidas among high fashion. Kith’s focus has turned towards a high-class street-style. And popular among the young, Supreme has created a brand of urban style like no other. Vetement is another brand which has grown and spread the popularity of the style in the fashion world. And in the rise of Kanye West’s Yeezy designs, streetwear has never been so high and sought-after among celebrities, fashion designers, and the general public. Just look at the beige-toned, ripped garments, and even “sock” heels that so many obsess over.
In the future, I know we can expect to see more and more streetwear on the major runways and among the influential members of the fashion community.
