Summer is undoubtedly the greatest season. From the time we were children summer harkened to the idea of freedom, or financial stability with a summer job. There is a certain nostalgia to the season, so it beckons a conversation about the good, the bad, and the snugly.
- The Good
Maxi dresses– Ah tis the season. Maxi dresses come back every year, bringing a wave of traditional femininity, and the comfort of long, flowing dresses protecting your legs, and bum from peeling off of a plastic, or rubber seat when you stand up. The one piece makes you look like you tried your best on any given day, with no more effort than digging through your closet searching frantically when you are late to work.
Daylight– During the summer, the days become longer letting us at least feel as though we have more time. No more walking out of the office, and fumbling through your purse trying to find your phone to use its’ flashlight.
Summer Scents– One word; tropical. Every year the lovely fragrance shops switch up the perfumes, and body washes they have to offer. Typically, certain scents are offered in different seasons, in addition to basic scents like vanilla, mango, and the like. Fall and winter typically offer deeper scents such as amber, pumpkin cupcake, and peppermint. Summer and spring often offer tropical, and fruity scents such as strawberry, tropical fusion, and coconut.
- The Bad
Bugs– Does much really need to be said about this? They are creepy and crawly. You feel them even when they are not actually crawling on you. If you sit on a porch or balcony in the evening with a light on, they will likely dive bomb you or your phone as you scroll through videos on Facebook. Thankfully, some wonderful human created bug spray and bug repellent candles. Pro tip: if you do not want to me bitten by mosquitoes, or have that terrible bug spray smell or taste –admit it we have all somehow tasted bug spray- rub yourself with a dryer sheet. Mosquitoes will not bite, and you will not itch.
Children Yelling– The shrill voices and gleeful screams of children fill the air until all hours of the night as they play Ghost in the Graveyard, or Kick the Can. Addendum: do kids still play these games, or has that died out with the end of the 90’s babies childhood? Regardless, just remind yourself that they are only having fun, and it will be over in a few months.
Sweat– When it gets hot, you will sweat, and when you sweat you will likely feel pretty gross. Thankfully, good deodorant and a nice cold shower can help.
- The Snugly
Bonfires– The occasional cool summer night provides an excellent pre-fall bonfire. Nothing beats cozying up next to a warm fire with some marshmallows for s’mores, and good friends. Maybe that should have been the other way around. The crackle sound and smoke slowly dim the light of the fire before bed, lulling the bonfire patrons into a state of relaxation.
North Face Jackets– Towards the end of summer North Face Jackets begin to resurface as the weather begins to cool down. These fleeces are good for cool weather in any season and are extremely popular on college campuses. They come in a variety of colors, but the most popular one is black.
That Special Someone– Be it your husband, wife, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend, lover, crush, friend with benefits, friend without benefits, or pet, many people, though understandably not all, enjoy a good cuddle, and who better to cuddle with than someone you care about? These cuddle sessions and best by the aforementioned bonfire, or in an air conditioned place.
