Following the widely successful release of her makeup line, Rihanna is extending her hand over lingerie fashion. Just like her makeup line, Rihanna created a lingerie line that is focused on inclusivity and diversity. The collection launched on May 11 and the line include sizes for straight -sized and plus-sized women. The options range from 32A to 44DDD for bras and XS to 3X for underwear. The Savage x Fenty Instagram advertised the new line by including models of all sizes and races.

Rihanna has been a champion for inclusivity of all kinds in any of her launches, but many singer-turned-fashion designers, like Dua Lipa, have failed to follow in their promise to bring a size inclusive line. Buzzfeed recently released a video of women trying on Rihanna’s lingerie. As a test of true inclusivity, each woman in the video is of a different size and all demonstrate how the lingerie fits their bodies. Published in Buzzfeed’s As/Is channel, the video, “Women Try Rihanna’s Size Inclusive Lingerie Line,” interviews women about their experience with body positivity and how lingerie can help boost their confidence.
Like many of the As/Is videos, this video promotes female empowerment. Each woman talks about growing up with their bodily insecurities. Their negative experiences are often connected to traditional lingerie ads that associate lingerie with the perfect, slim yet curvy, women. With Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty line, women of all shapes and ethnicities were chosen to model the line, showing diversity and acceptance for all shapes and sizes.
Although As/Is’s video is more of a body positivity video than a review, each woman modeled pieces from Rihanna’s lingerie line, looking and feeling amazing. A mother who was interviewed in the video said, “Lingerie should make me feel…unlimited.”
Rihanna’s messaging in all her product launches is clear: Women of all shapes, sizes, and colors should be included but they often aren’t. The popularity of her products and the message that it sends to the public demonstrates the large market for inclusivity and diversity. Rihanna is a pioneer for women and fortunately, brands and companies are taking notes. More and More cosmetics brands are releasing more shades in deeper tones and clothing brands are expanding their size selection.
Rihanna has been a champion for female consumers. Her new line of lingerie has opened new doors for women looking to gain more confidence through sex appeal.
