Let’s talk Donald Trump since sure that is a name that you have not heard much recently. Okay, that actually might me the ONLY name you have heard in the news recently. I mean, he is the new President of the United States after all. Not to mention how controversial of a figure he is, especially with politics.
We all know that before becoming president Donald Trump ran many million and billion dollar businesses. We know about his casinos, real estates, and his hotels, but would you believe me if I said Trump had his own modeling agency? Yes, Donald Trump was in the fashion world. Can you say you are surprised though? It is Donald Trump we are talking about here. Like him or not he is everywhere and he is involved in just about anything he can be.
As of recent, it has been reported by the Trump Organization who confirmed its withdrawal from Trump Model Management. The Trump Organization chose to leave the modeling industry because the company wants to solely focus on their core business in real estate, golf, and hospitality space. The organization also recently just sold the rights to the Miss Universe Organization as well.
Trump Models has been in business for 18 years and has had numerous amounts of success and have given opportunities to many different models along the way. The modeling organization represented a few different big name models, such as Yasmin Le Bon, and other notable names in the fashion industry.
Even though the Trump Organization claim the just want to change their focus, the ending of this agency could have something to do with Donald Trumps recent presidency. Apparently there has been numerous boycotts of Trump Model Management by different people in the industry such as stylists, photographers, and makeup artists. Many have said that they refuse to be part of any job that has casting from Trump Models.
There has also been reports of many agents and employees leaving the company because people would tell them they did not want to work with anyone from Trump Models. The models received the worst of this discrimination against the management. Many would show up on sets and get harassed and belittled for being part of this management group.
Even though Trump has had much success in the business scene, there has been scandal around this modeling agency. Many reports were made saying the models that work under the company were treated as “modern-day slaves”. This meaning they worked for little to no money and had very bad living conditions. In one instance a model said she stayed in a house with 11 girls in a three-bedroom space. Other models also came out saying there was illegal trafficking going on within the agency.
Even back when the agency started 18 years ago, there was negative light concerning it. The agency changed its name to just “T” for some time because people could not wrap their heads around booking models from an agency associated with his name. It stayed this one letter name for quite some time because of the stigma concerning hiring Trump models.
When all the chaos started there was a lot of models who were getting ready to leave, but were not sure where to go. Many of the models never worked for any other agency and were nervous to transfer to another. Luckily, one former manager for the agency left to start his own form called Anti Management and took some models with him. Gabriel Ruas Santos Rocha is the one who started this new agency and said he is dedicating on working with the models and expanding all their opportunities.
Anti is also committed to representing models from all different backgrounds- no matter thier race, color, size, capability, or beliefs. There seems to be a strong future for this new agency who snagged remarkable models in its first week and has confirmed partnerships with different international agency who plan to send models to America. Models who switched to this new agency from Trumps are seeing how truly great it can be modeling.
So why do you think Trump sold the rights to this agency? Was it because he was to busy with other multi-dollar businesses, or because he saw the agency going down the drain and got scared? I’ll let you decide that one.
