On Thursday, November 10th, the Trump family made a trip to the White House. While President-Elect Trump and President Obama were discussing, Melania and Michelle met up for tea as well. This tradition includes the presidential family giving the incoming family a tour of the private residence, and a chat in the Oval Office. As to what was discussed, there is little information besides that they found a common ground in motherhood, talking about raising their children. Sasha and Malia were around the same age as Barron, Melania’s son, in 2008 when the Obama’s first moved to the White House. There was no press present and only one picture of the two of them was released.
Michelle had an interesting choice in her outfit. She wore a purple Narciso Rodriguez dress with an orange highlighted curve. The speculation that surrounds this is the seemingly present resemblance to the purple that Hillary Clinton wore at her concession speech on November 9th, the day when the final result were out. Subliminal messaging? Many people think so, especially because Michelle Obama was a valuable proponent for Hillary Clinton’s campaign. The brand also shows some links to Hillary. Michelle wore a Narciso Rodriguez coat to Hillary Clinton’s rally a few days prior to the election. Is this a way for Michelle to visibly communicate or mourn the loss of Hillary’s campaign? It is certainly possible, but it’s difficult to know for sure.
Many speculated about Melania’s choice of clothing as well, all black, a stark contrast to her typical white and pastel. Twitter was erupting with comments such as some explaining she looked as if she was attending a funeral. But it just as easily could be a classy choice of color – not enough to rush to any conclusions.
The great news, however, is that despite their vast differences in background, beliefs, and lifestyles, they were able to civilly communicate, especially after accusations that Melania copied a speech of Michelle’s from 2008. All we can do is hope for the best for the two!
