More and more designers are moving business to Los Angeles. Tom Ford’s women’s design team is now based in Los Angeles. It has been reported that Hedi Slimane, creative director of LVMH-owned brand Céline, is preparing to take over offices in West Hollywood.
Hedi Slimane arrived to Los Angeles many years ago, and has influenced many other well-known designers to follow his footsteps. Tamara Mellon, British fashion designer and co-founder of Jimmy Choo, is now living in Los Angeles. Eddie Borgo, jewelry designer who has worked for the runways of Marchesa and Altuzarra, has also moved there. Natacha Ramsay-Levi, creative director of Chloé, has been frequently visiting the West Coast, and might even be looking for an office space in Los Angeles.
More and more, big-name designers are choosing Los Angeles to showcase collections and do business. Los Angeles attracts so many fashion designers because it’s made up of kinds of different people, and everyone has their own unique sense of style. Designers are always excited to experience that type of environment.
Katherine Ross, Senior Vice President of Public Relations and Communications for LVMH, says it’s not just luxury brands who are putting Los Angeles on the map as a fashion capital. She explains it’s mainly the type of people who make up the city: “a creative class of cool kids doing things differently — and thriving.” Who wouldn’t want to be there?
