London born designer Imogen Evans raised eyebrows as she showcased her collection as CAAFD approved designer at the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter ’19 showcasing. At the mere age of 19, her work was both bizarre and though provoking. Her collection was titled “Places I’ve Been Touched.” She collected stories of sexual assault and incorporated them through text based prints, silhouettes and fabric choices. Every piece from the collection was accompanied by a mouthpiece. She wanted to send across a message that no matter what you wear, who you are or wear you are – no one is completely safe from sexual assault. With this collection, Evans hoped to spark a conversation, to get people discussing about this social issue.
Imogen Evans was born in London, moved to Edinburgh as a child and studied Fashion Design in Milan. ‘imi’ by Imogen Evans is a brand that utilizes fashion to address societal issues. Each collection captures a twist of our existence and rejects the idea of traditional colors, and shapes. Evans’s work creates a balance between art on the body and wearable, yet alternative clothing. She has a desire to create something, new, thought provoking and bizarre.
