Last week, Guo Pei showcased her Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2018 collection at Paris Fashion Week. Pei’s work is inspired by Chinese imperial court. Anyone who remembers Rihanna’s 2015 Met Gala gown, knows that Guo Pei doesn’t disappoint nor does she play it safe. Her style consists of nothing but regality and elegance. While staying true to her Chinese heritage, Pei featured an enchanted forest themed runway. Posing under a tree, models graced the stage in dresses ranging from floral to feathers, crystals and ornaments.
This collection, though very elaborate, was clean and sophisticated. Pei manifested a balance of this by , having her models wear wedge platforms, long metallic nails and complementary headpieces. Golden headpieces often were large and paired with the more complex designs, while the crystallized ones were subtle—sometimes mirroring traditional crowns. With that in mind, the most memorable gowns include the opening and the finale gown. These two contrasting looks gave us all the drama and sophistication necessary to captivate the audience’s attention, every strut of the way. In addition to the dramatic , yet simplistic scenery, Pei also integrated contemporary dance hand movements as well as African drums towards the end of the show. Guo Pei Haute Couture collection will surely make heads turn at upcoming red carpet festivities yet again.
