Luxury suitcases which cost more than many airplane flights are a growing trend within the fashion community.
RIMOWA is only one of the many luxury luggage brands that are tapping into the demand for luxury travel goods.
RIMOWA’s released a collaboration with Fendi in November 2017 which garnered a great deal of success, so the announced second collaboration between the two brands comes as no surprise.

The growing market for luxury travel bags has led to the founding of brands such as Raden.
Raden has garnered nearly $2 million in sales, both online and in its Manhattan store. While the company is no longer in business due to its controversial battery feature, the initial growth of the business is undeniable and demonstrates the market for expensive travel luggage. Raden’s sleek, lightweight design with built-in “smart” charger was both practical and stylish.
With a growing number of travelers flying internationally, the market for luxury luggage will likely continue to grow.
In 2014, Chinese citizens made over 100 million trips overseas. This grew by 10 percent during the first half of 2015 and is projected to reach nearly 200 million trips by 2020. Chinese tourists have also been contributing to the growth in luxury sales. In 2016, McKinsey & Co. reported that an estimated 7.6 million households spent on average RMB 71,000 in luxury goods per year. Chinese consumers represent nearly a third of the global luxury market.
With the market for travel in growing tandem with the market for luxury goods, brands like RIMOWA are flourishing and will most likely only grow with a higher output of luxury items.
The RIMOWA x Fendi collaboration released a line of sleek aluminum suitcases in blue and red. Like the previous 2017 line, the aluminum is covered in the Fendi monogram in a subtle, brushed pattern. The suitcases also feature leather handles on the top and side. Additionally, each suitcase comes with a belt and a paper airplane-shaped charm. The very obvious Fendi logo throughout the suitcase screams luxury and expensive.
RIMOWA has also partnered with other brands like Supreme, Off-White, and graphic designers M/M Paris for even more exclusive, high-end products.
