This season, Paris was the apogee for all things fashion, art, and beauty. While we learned various tips and tricks of the beauty trade throughout fashion shows in London, New York, and Milan, Paris outshined all others.
New York featured looks in glossy eyes, clashes of wearable radiant color, and keenly minimal hairstyles. London featured dark and nude-toned nail polish for anyone who couldn’t pull off glitter nails. Textured, experimental hair, and slept-in glittery, eye makeup also made an entrance this season. Milan had an overload of hair accessories, red lipstick, tousled muddy eyes, and most importantly, wispy straight hair tucked behind the ears and behind the shoulders.
If we look at all four fashion cities, there are some intriguing developments on how achievable and wearable our 2018 beauty looks can be. We’re seeing a shift in the stark kohl-lined eye, super smoky and overcast. And now, there are interesting new ways to accessorize your hair: using strips of fabric to tie, and incorporating instruments like a plastic tube to envelope wet hair into a ponytail, creating the Perspex ponies by Chanel.
We’re also seeing crystal bands placed at the part of the hair, and silk scarves at Lanvin. Blunt cuts swept the runway with Mansur Gavriel. Slick side parts also took center stage, as did side-swept pixie cuts.
Slick hair fastened with bobby pins is the trend for Spring 2018 amongst most hairdressers. Interestingly, choppy hair is also a twist to the look. Don’t feel shy wearing those overlong chandelier earrings, or faux airport luggage tags tied to your side-slicked hair either.
For beauty, graphic eyes are staying in. Expect to see messed up liquid eyeliner and clumpy, smudged, spider lashes on purpose. With the glitter, we can play around with designs, like Anna Sui’s teardrop-inspired eyes.
There’s also glossy, yet smudgy burgundy lips for spring. And Moschino said we’re allowed to line our lips without filling them in, very Chola. For those repulsed by the cake mask, subtle hints of sheen are seen with a dewy, undressed face. Zero effort made. Faux flowers can also be draped around the neck and hairlines to show femininity for spring. Masculinity is seen with a side part and tucked hair to reveal a stronger jawline and straight brows for projection.
