New York Fashion Week time is almost upon us once again! The Spring/Summer 2019 season kicks off September 6th, 2018 and CAAFD (The Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers) has announced that Yufash will be a featured brand!
Kadri Klampe, also known as KK, is the founder of the brand known as Yufash; which identifies as a “new breed of luxury evening wear for women.” The Yufash wearer is a woman who is “confident, sophisticated, and rebellious when it comes to fashion” she is someone who “doesn’t follow trends; she sets them.” Klampe manufactures her designs in the UK, but they have gained international attention. Particularly when spotted on the likes of Little Mix or actress Billie Lourd on an episode on Scream Queens.
Klampe is originally from Estonia. It was here that she would design textile design, graduating at the top of her class. Klampe was exposed to fashion at a very young age, “My grandma was really into fashion, she inspired me so much and I spent so much of my childhood being with her…Then, when I was a teenager, I was designing the basics of skirts and dresses for my friends.”
According to Klampe the name Yufash is a play of “You Fashion.” The designer says “I didn’t want to name my label after myself as I did not want the whole brand to be about me. Yufash is about other women, their originality and their sense of style.”
Klampe is also the mind behind the fashion film “My Mind”, which was shown at the Fashion Film Festival in California and London. The film speaks to the aesthetic of old world glamour, and centers on the unmistakable allure of the femme fatale.
Such a fixation on glamour and polish shows in Klampe’s designs, as many of her clothes seek to slightly subvert classical beading and machine embellishment; often painting beads and mixing their color range. This gives an air of modernization to her clothes, making them look handmade and personal.
After all says, Klampe, “If we only save the old, who will bring the tomorrow?”
