Every season, New York Fashion Week brings something unique to New York, a feeling unlike anything else with a glimpse at what the future holds. Likewise, CAAFD (the Council of Aspiring American Fashion Designers) organizes an emerging designers showcase every season to highlight the best up-and-coming fashion designers from around the world and gives them center stage during this highly publicized time, which also gives you a look at the future of fashion. In this particular showcase in the long-running series of emerging designer showcases, four designers were given the spotlight, Fesvedy, Mikelsen, Frances Jerard and Samantha Leibowitz.
The showcase took place on September 10th and was produced by noted Fashion Guru and Business Maverick Resk ‘Que, and was held in the world famous Pier59 location in New York City, featured sights and sounds unable to be found anywhere else during Fashion Week, including live music and otherworldly color choices and designs.
The first featured emerging designer was the Georgia based Fesvedy. Made up of the designer and artist team of Marita Mamuchashvili and Kakha Beri hail from the country of Georgia, and made it their mission to bring a little piece of Georgia to New York City. The designs on display were dominated by muted grey and white, the pieces displayed an almost marble-like effect, something that is not usually seen at New York Fashion Week. Everything meshed together very well, truly feeling like an entire collection and not random pieces thrown together.
Following that was San Francisco based Mikelsen. The colors on display in this showcase ran the gamut, featuring blacks, whites, psychedelic hues, and in the final pieces, stunning shades of gold and pink. The texture work on these pieces were truly a sight to behold as well, with everything having some form of extra texturing, giving the eye something exciting to look at, and complementing the slender frames of the models.
Next up was New Zealand-based Frances Jerard. The designs in this leg of the showcase were positively radiant in their color choices, that cannot be said enough. Pink was by far the most dominating color, with reds, blues and yellows splashed in for quite the eye-catching designs. Pieces were adorned with feathers, lace, and faux fur, making these designs stand out in an entirely new way.
Finishing up this showcase was New York-Based designer Samantha Leibowitz. Leibowitz’ design choices may seem tame compared to some other designers, but she executes on the simplicity expertly, utilizing blacks and whites magnificently. Every piece is something a woman can wear proudly, and be excited to be seen wearing. These pieces were stylish, yet down to Earth, a very tough line to toe that Leibowitz handled extremely well.
And with that we have yet another successful CAAFD emerging designers showcase in the rearview mirror. In our opinion, it was an extremely successful show, with all in attendance absolutely amazed at what took place before them. Check back next season for what CAAFD has in store, and also please follow Fesvedy, Mikelsen, Frances Jerard and Samantha Leibowitz to keep up on their next designs, as we are sure you will not be disappointed!
