Nicolas Ghesquière made his return to the Louis Vuitton runway with his 5th show, the resort 2019 collection. In collaboration with Grace Coddington, former creative director of Vogue magazine, the “French Riviera” theme drew inspiration from 80’s vintage European luxury style and classical architecture. The neutral color palette with splashes of red and black, along with an eccentric play on lines and drapery stirred an unforgettable scene as models walked down the runway in monochromatic works of art.
The collection also paid homage to some 19th-century French circus looks, using purple and black checkerboard prints and quirky color combinations with bright, shiny lamé skirts. The myriad of feathers and animal prints also invoked a nostalgic air that would bring back childhood memories of any colorful extravaganza. Paired with leather thigh-highs and black berets, the designer put a modern French twist on his eccentric and unprecedented looks that made for an intriguingly delightful show. Curiosity and imagination captured the runway with this unique resort wear collection.
