Badgley Mischka presented their collection for spring and summer 2018 at Gallery 1 during New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Floral prints in both 2D and 3D decked out the tunics and evening gowns in bright orange, turquoise, white and different shades of pink. This new collection was accessorized with sequined flats, shiny strappy heels, and dangly earrings in the same material and texture as the clothing.
A staple article in this line would be the white pea coat with blue and gold sequins that created a textured-floral design. This item will serve well in the early spring when it’s still a bit too cold to embark out into the open without a jacket. The colors are subtle enough that it can be thrown across any look.
Flower-themed clothing is sure to be a hit next year, as seen in Badgley Mischka’s collection as well as in many other collections at NYFW this week. Mischka is known for its timeless designs made out of the finest materials and craftsmanship that goes above and beyond. They claim that their style “harks back to the glamorous Hollywood of the Forties.” Badgley Mischka’s 2018 collection aims to take the audience back to an era of exquisite and effortless evening attire.
Mark Badgley and James Mischka, the duo behind the Badgley Mischka brand, rank on Vogue’s “Top 10 American Designers” list. The two joined forces when they were both studying at the Parsons School of Design in New York. Fast to realize the similarities in their aesthetic of dress, they later launched a label together in 1988.
Mischka’s 10 a.m. time slot clashed with two other acts this fashion week. Nonetheless, they harnessed a huge crowd of followers at their show with an engaging new collection. The looks got progressively more formal towards the end. This season’s gleaming evening wear of shiny shoes, statement jewelry, and popping handbags was a hit. What started out as vibrant oranges and hot pinks matched with white leggings and sequin flats ended in long, sleek evening gowns with pop-out flowers and bows sewn on, paired with dangly earrings of their respective material, high heels, and even matching framed-sunglasses on some models.
The show was choreographed to go down the color pallet from start to finish. The bold warm colors turned to the white, like the white leggings, pants, and shoes they were all worn with. A sleek white evening gown came out with a green and pink floral sequin design stitched on the front. A thick white ribbon was sewn on to caress the shoulders and make way for the rest of the color pallet to be presented. A turquoise dress with matching earrings came out next and then a pink deep v-neck gown with a bust made out of flowers followed close behind.
Founded in New York and retailing at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and other prestigious stores around the world, Badgley Mischka’s collection is high fashion. Their garments for spring and summer 2018 stayed true to their tradition of exquisite elegant evening wear and those who choose to wear it shall feel simply fabulous inside and out.
