Without hesitation, when asked what my all-time favorite movie is, my answer will always be Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Therefore, when I found out that Audrey Hepburn’s clothes were going up for auction, describing my attitude as excited was an understatement.
Later this year, the brunette actresses and fashion icon’s clothing will be available for the highest bidder. Christie’s has, in fact, confirmed that featured pieces from Hepburn’s extensive personal collection will be available at a flagship auction in London this September, twenty-four years after the actress’s death. After being owned by the Hepburn family, the items are set to start at $126.64 and reach up to $101,312. The garments include a Burberry trench coat, with an estimated worth of $7,598.40-10,131.20, a variety of ballet pumps, and a blue satin cocktail dress by one of Hepburn’s favorite designers Hubert de Givenchy.
The actress’s personal collection of photographs will be sold in addition to film memorabilia. Famous for using turquoise ink to make notes in her scripts, an annotated Breakfast at Tiffany’s script is predicted to sell for $75,984-101,312. According to her family, this is a perfect opportunity to “pass on to future generations.” Hepburn’s sons Luca Dotti and Sean Hepburn Ferrer stated, “In an effort to include all who partake in these feelings for her, we have selected a collection of items to share with her ever-growing base of admirers. We are honored to entrust Christie’s with this sale and it is with great joy that we wish to share her spirit, through this sale, and its related previews, with all who have enjoyed her films, her sense of style, and followed her humanitarian legacy.” Although these items may not fit into the price range of the general public, you can be sure fashionistas and Hepburn fans will be following this sale closely.
