Following adidas’s recent collaboration with Fifa and Parley Ocean Plastics, the major athletic wear brand has partnered with esteemed fashion designer, Alexander Wang. Together, the pair designed the Turnout Trainer which will release in two colors: Core Black/Chalk White-Bold Orange & Light Brown/Chalk White-Core Black. This will be Alexander Wang’s third collaboration with adidas. While the most of the hype surrounds the shoe, the duo also gave birth to a number of apparel pieces. Including a new pair of slides, tracksuits, soccer apparel, and socks.

According to adidas, the design of the collection celebrates factory rejects that are often thrown away or sold at a lower value for its imperfections. In the official release photos, models pose in tracksuits that are noticeably wrinkled and the signature Adidas stripes are sewn inside-out, all characteristics of traditionally rejected clothing. Wang’s message behind the collection is clear: mistakes and imperfections should be celebrated, not wasted. The clothing line seems to align itself with adidas’s recent efforts in making eco-friendly clothing. While Alexander Wang’s collaboration alludes to the material that is often wasted, adidas’ collection with Parley Ocean Plastics reuses recycled materials from garbage found in the ocean.
It seems that adidas joins the fashion industry in the movement towards a more sustainable method of clothing production. Luxury fashion brands like Stella McCartney and Eileen Fisher have been leading the fashion industry towards a more eco-friendly approach to production. This trend can be seen throughout a growing number of designers learning to become aware of their impact on the global environment.
Alexander Wang and adidas are just a few of the brands joining the eco-friendly fashion movement. Thier collaboration will release on June 23rd.
