Perhaps one of the present-day legends of the fashion world is Anna Wintour. The Editor-In-Chief of Vogue’s status as a fashion icon is far-reaching and well-known by fashionistas and non-fashion followers alike, even to the point that many view her as being the inspiration for The Devil Wears Prada’s Miranda Priestly. Essentially, Wintour’s approval is highly sought after in the fashion world, so it’s notable that Air Jordan’s new capsule collection is both based upon the woman herself and edited by Vogue.
The collaboration seems to make perfect sense; sneakers are having a major fashion moment, and appear to be well on their way to becoming a part of many classic looks. Vogue itself has quoted Wintour in stating that there I, in fact,t something special about sneaker-chic: “There’s something in juxtaposing an elegant rose-print dress, say, with a slick set of high-tops.”
The fact of the matter is that everyone wants in on the sneaker trend, whether you’re a traditional sneaker label, such as Nike, Adidas, Puma etc., or a high fashion label, such as Balenciaga or Louis Vuitton.
The capsule collection will consist of two varieties. The first, a reimagining of the Air Jordan 1, is the same classic shoe in all-white with a bright red tongue framed by a zipper. The second, the Air Jordan 3 SE, makes use of Wintour’s proclivity for tweed suit; with the top being made from a choice of red or black tweed. Each of the sneakers will come with an “Edited by Vogue” Air Tag, as well as the acronym “AWOK” (Short for Anna Wintour Okay), stamped on the heel.
@hypebeastkicks: @voguemagazine editor-in-chief Anna Wintour partners with @nike to release an “edit” of the @jumpman23 Air Jordan 1 and 3 silhouettes. Each pair features Wintour’s “AWOK” approval signature which stands for “Anna Wintour Okay.” The AJ1 pairs will be available on July 21 with the AJ3’s following on September 7.
The Air Jordan 1 will officially be made available on July 21st. Those looking to buy the Air Jordan 3 SE will have to wait until September 7th. The sneakers are currently priced at $220.
The first release is said to be available at select retailers as well as the SNKRS app on July 23rd. The second will also be available at select retailers, as well as Nike.
