Summer is the season for outdoor barbeques, vacations at the beach, and poolside parties. As a makeup lover, however, summer can be brutal. The heat, water, and sand all pose a threat to my perfectly beat face. But after years of learning how to cope with summer weather, here are a few products that have helped me get through another season of sweaty, melting foundation.
- Sunscreen: Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream
This sunscreen is a godsend. With the summer sun constantly beating down, sun protection is more important than ever. This product prevents acne, fades dark spots, and even minimizes blackheads. The creamy yet cooling formula is both moisturizing and refreshing. It does not leave a greasy finish, so it’s great for all skin types. The 50 PA+++ ensures that your face will stay protected for an extended period of time. But, most importantly, this sunscreen doesn’t disturb the performance of foundation. The only downside is that because it is physical sunscreen, it might leave a slight white cast, but that’s nothing a little makeup can’t fix.
2. Primer: Benefit POREfessional
Why fix what’s not broken? This primer has been a staple in many makeup devotees’ routines for quite some time. The POREfessional is an amazing primer that not only smooths out the texture and pores but also helps makeup last longer on the skin. This classic primer has been raved about since its release several years ago. It continues to rank highly despite Benefit releasing newer primers. Foundations glide over this primer, creating a blurred effect to the skin. A flawless base makes for a beautiful makeup look.
3. Foundation: TOO FACED Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation
While this foundation gained a little bit of hype during its release, it definitely didn’t get the credit it deserved. Peach Perfect has quickly become my favorite foundation because of its lasting power. Many long-wear foundations have a light, liquidy consistency that sets in a flat matte finish. While this formulation works for some people, those with extremely oily skin have found that this formula often moves and lifts when the skin gets oily. This TOO FACED foundation is creamy and dries down to a semi-matte finish. It adheres extremely well to the skin and, like the POREfessional, the Peach Perfect Foundation blurs the skin and covers most dark spots.
4. Powder: Innisfree No Sebum Mineral Powder
Korean skin products are some of the best on the market. Innisfree is brand with drugstore pricing, but the quality of its products are top-notch. This powder is best used when baking underneath the eye area. It blurs pores and brightens up the skin while keeping your foundation and concealer locked in place all day. This powder also comes in a pressed compact for on-the-go touch-ups, but the loose powder is amazing for baking. For under $10, this powder really doesn’t play games.
5. Setting Spray: Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray
Urban Decay is a brand that has consistently released products that impress, but the All Nighter Setting Spray is truly a gift. The mister on the bottle perfectly disperses the product in a fine mist that doesn’t disturb the makeup. Additionally, it melts makeup perfectly into the skin, making it look more natural and less powdery. I have not experienced any over-dewiness, cracking, or dry skin; nor has my makeup settled into fine lines. The product really helps the longevity of my makeup, as well. The setting spray product is a hardcore solution for those extremely long days and special occasions, so I normally limit my use to once a week. As it is paraben-free, sulfate-free, and phthalates-free, using this product every day shouldn’t cause problems.
The summer doesn’t have to ruin your makeup and with these products, you can prevent a major foundation meltdown that could possibly ruin your perfect summer day.
