Sarah Burton did not have it easy when she became the creative director for the entire Alexander McQueen brand in 2010, having to follow in such prominent footsteps. McQueen is known for its dramatic and gorgeously contrasted pieces that always catch the audience eyes walking down the runway. Sarah Burton continues to follow in his tracks everyday creating over the top looks, and this year at the Paris Fashion Week 2017 fall-winter show, that was no exception. The style of this new collection is very romantic and fairytale-ish with edgy and elegant pieces alike.
This is one of her best collection to date. The main colors in her collection were a mix of black, whites, reds, and oranges. Many looks included long and short flowing dresses with big leather belts wrapped around the wastes. The tenderness and robustness of the leather mixed with the feminine prints and made each look heavenly. A few of the dresses at the end have a 70s Cher-esque quality that still looks fresh and appropriately glam. The final dresses that came down the runway were a feast for the eyes. The embroidered bead-work of these gowns showed the intricacy she put in to each of the looks. The beginning looks of edgy and rebellious paired perfectly with the glamorous over the top dresses at the end. We’ll see various iterations of this one on the streets for sure.
