On February 12th in the heart of New York City at ARTBEAM, the site of many fashion notables, such as Tracey Reese, Christian Siriano, Zimmerman and Vivienne Hu, SAKU New York put on a CAAFD/iFashion Network sponsored showcase to an eagerly awaiting audience. SAKU New York, and its chief designer, Lissa Koo, put together a one of a kind show, and with the production work of noted producer and fashion guru, Resk ‘Que, it will no doubt be remembered as a highlight of New York Fashion Week, and not justforf the Fall Winter season either, but a highlight of New York Fashion Week for years to come.
Lissa Koo and SAKU New York are New York natives, as you can obviously tell. They knew that the international fashion community would be converging on their home of New York, and they came out swinging for the fences, ready to show that New York City was, is, and will always be the number one fashion city in the entire world.
The designs on display were stark in their colors, definitely siding towards black and white than colorful. Sheer fabrics and frills were utilized in a masterclass performance. A great variety of sleeve designs could also be seen. Flowy elements were also put on display, giving the pieces a vibe unlike any other pieces, each was entirely unique. To complement the designs, many models were adorned in pigtails, a hairstyle not often seen in high fashion, and the makeup is also worth mentioning, as it was used in an exaggerated method, all in all creating a very singular, unique look.
At the conclusion of the showcase, Lissa Koo emerged from behind the curtain to a standing ovation worthy of a designer of her caliber. The smile on her face said everything that needed to be said on her opinion of her showcase, and we agree with her wholeheartedly. We look forward to what she has in store for next season, so be sure to come back with us.
