Custo Dalmau, the designer behind Custo Barcelona, like most designers wants to make his last show at the historic Bryant Park spot exciting and memorable. The fashion show is scheduled for Valentine’s Day, but you don’t need to wait that long to see what Dalmau has in store. Custo Barcelona’s new collection will be anything but simple with sequin inlays, shiny appliques, embroidery, and intricate patchwork. Here are a few sketches to give you an idea of what will be shown in the tents in next Sunday.
Inspired by gems and precious stones Dalmu will be presenting a bright cheerful collection. The runway will be filed with gemstone colored garments inspired by black and pink diamonds, sapphires, turquoise, emeralds and amethysts. The graphics and bold prints we have all come to love and expect from the brand will still be there, but are evolving. Look for graphics based on dream-like surreal images of as butterflies, feathers, perfume bottles, lips, diamonds, and jewels.
“The runway is where we experiment,” says designer Custo Dalmau. “Where other designers use [New York] Fashion Week to present trends for the upcoming season, we have always used [New York] Fashion Week as a venue for expressing artistic ideas and emotions. Dalmau is determined to keep a daring attitude despite the recession. “We don’t play it safe,” he says, “even in today’s economy.”
