the Maxi Dress Calling has taken on a luxurious role for Spring/Summer 2010 with more celebrities walking the red carpet in this vintage silhouette.  It is the season’s alternative to the intricate evening gown.  The look appears formal but has a relaxed feel.  These floor length sheaths have returned as an integral piece in several Spring 2010 collections.
Nicole Richie, Rashida Jones and  Keira Knightley’s  hit the red carpet wearing these dresses at black tie galas at the start of this year.  And other celebrities are following the trend from the runway for Spring/Summer 2010 shows.  Diane von Furstenberg featured the Maxi Dress in her Spring 2010 collection.
“Oasis” -- the Spring 2010 Collection, she says was inspired by ancient days and the temple setting for the runway show emphasized that.  “We went into antiquity … as seen by the pre-Raphaelite paintings of the 19th century.  Prints [was] the first thing i learned in my fashion training,” she says, “so for me it’s so tied to the beginning and conception of making fabric look and feel richer.”

She called upon analogous visual elements, presenting the boldly printed maxi dress in stunning color combinations that capture the vibrant essence of the streets of Bombay.

Another standout this spring is the Diane von Furstenberg Lucretia Dress in Indian Temple Dip Dye, a popular item this season in 100% silk printed jersey jacquard. The dress is available at Saks for $695.

“When work with prints the color makes you feel alive,” she says.  “[Prints] add color to your life.”
