ifashion: Do you have a special place where you create your designs?
Every place where you realize your creative expressions is special.
ifashion: Which is your favorite line to create, Spring or Fall?
Both, what is most important is what you create.
ifashion: Who is your favorite designer?
I admire the intellectual designs of Belgian designers such as Haider Ackermann and Maison Martin Margiela. I admire Calvin Klein, Donna Karen, Helmut Lang, and Bottega Veneta for their subtle designs combined with excellent wearability. And professionally, I am fascinated by Prada and Gianfranco Ferre.
ifashion: Who do you hope will someday wear your line?
People who will accept my creative work and whose needs and expectations I have met.
ifashion: What personal quality do you believe is reflected in your work?
My work reflects how I see and feel the world, and it is very important to perform my job honestly and with good quality.
ifashion: Do you think a woman is sexier in sneakers or stilletos? Why?
Although women can be very sexy in sneakers, I think stilettos make a woman’s legs appear more attractive.
ifashion: What is a tough lesson you have learned from being a designer?
Learning to be a business woman in the fashion industry, including learning how to sell, make ads, and learning about new markets.
ifashion: Is there anything you would have done differently in your career so far?
I think everything happens as it should be…I work, learn and develop. In our country, the fashion industry is only about 20 years old and the market is limited. We don’t have a lot of experience or financial resources. But we learn very well… and Latvian designers are already in a lot of international fashion competitions.
ifashion: What was your most exciting moment as a designer?
The process. The process to create. Maybe someday I will be able to say that the most exciting thing in my life was my life.
ifashion: Where do you see your line in 5 years?
I think we will make two season collections and two commercial collections per year. We will work to develop new ideas, forms, and content.
ifashion: Where do you feel you were most successful and where did you feel at a low point?
Fashion has forced me to become a woman who counts, thinks about advertisements, and knows how to communicate with society. I feel successful in that I still have joy in my life and the desire to work creatively.
ifasihon: What do you think is the most important fashion piece a woman should have and a man should have? Why?
No specific pieces; it is important to make your own fashion combinations by mixing pieces that serve you well from established and newer brands.
ifashion: What item do you think is worth splurging on?
No specific items. People need to think about design, functionality, quality, and financially supporting companies whose work they like.
ifashion: How long does it take you to create a collection?
On average, it takes two or three months, excluding the time what we need for creative development.
ifashion: Do you create your own drawings?
I make my own sketches. If some unexpected idea inspires me I can lay out the materials – cut them and prepare them for sewing.
ifashion: If you weren't a designer what would you be?
Maybe director…
ifashion: What is your philosophy about the art of fashion?
There are many discussions and opinions about this theme. I think before a designer can position himself as an artist, he should be materially independent and have reached human and professional maturity. If the artist is able to project content and form and express something new and discussion-worthy, than we can talk about fashion as art and discuss the designer’s ideas and impact on society.
ifashion: What is one piece I should have in my closet this fall and what color should it be?
I would recommend a good quality, voluminous cashmere scarf.
ifashion: In your opinion, what is the worst fashion faux pas a person can commit ?
As in any profession – dishonesty.
ifashion: What is your favorite article of clothing that you own?
Clothes that I like – dresses, high heels…
ifashion: What advice would you give to someone getting into the fashion industry?
I would tell them to be full of ideas, to be able to satisfy people’s needs, and to be learning all the time…
